Hanging the Laundry in the Square
A SOCIAL SCULPTURE UNFOLDING THROUGH FABRIC, BODIES, AND SPACE
Pink Silence Mazan takes shape within a very specific place and context. Developed in close dialogue with the residents and the municipality of Mazan, the project is part of a broader public conversation around domestic violence and responds to the urgent need to move this issue from the private sphere into collective awareness.
Domestic violence is too often confined to the home and treated as a private matter. The sheet, a symbol of intimacy, rest, and domestic life, becomes the central medium of the project. The French expression laver son linge sale en famille captures the social mechanism that keeps violence hidden in silence. Pink Silence Mazan turns that logic inside out. It is no longer about washing dirty laundry in private, but about washing it in solidarity, in a shared, visible, public space.
PINK SILENCE TURNS THIS LOGIC INSIDE OUT
Through four participatory workshops, local participants create 365 dyed and embroidered sheets, one for each day of the year. Those involved become the carriers of testimonies entrusted to us by women through our online platform. Gradually, these sheets become artworks in their own right, before coming together as a large scale social sculpture. In this way, Mazan is no longer reduced to the image of a place marked by violence, but emerges instead as a community choosing to make its solidarity visible in the face of a reality that extends far beyond its own borders.
Our Vision
Autumn in Mazan
In collaboration with the local dance school Danse Mouvance, the project continues through movement. A site specific performance takes place across Mazan, bringing both bodies and fabric into public space. What was once kept behind the closed doors of the home now becomes visible at the heart of the village.
What Remained Inside
A SOCIAL SCULPTURE UNFOLDING THROUGH FABRIC, BODIES, AND PLACE
The 365 sheets come together as a large scale public installation that turns the village into a shared space of recognition, solidarity, and collective awareness. Pink Silence Mazan brings schools, cultural actors, residents, and local partners into a four phase process: local grounding, workshops, public installation, and long term engagement. In this way, the project stands as both a strong artistic statement and a civic gesture. It moves a pain long held in the private sphere into public presence, and restores public space as a place of shared visibility, responsibility, and care.

Call for Action
PINK SILENCE NEEDS COMMITTED PARTNERS
Pink Silence is a concrete project. It will take shape on the ground, with the women who choose to take part, in public space. To make it possible, we need committed partners by our side now. We are looking for institutions, foundations, local authorities, and patrons who want to support a project capable of turning silence into a visible form of public dialogue. We are seeking partners who do not look away and who share the conviction that art can reveal a hidden reality and open a path toward collective awareness.

By co creating installations with women and students, the project makes violence visible, supports emotional expression, and amplifies marginalized voices. It transforms public space into a platform for dialogue and builds local partnerships that connect art, education, and social change.
