Sustainable Communities

What part of you are you bringing today‽

In 2017, Bogna Grazyna Jaroslawski, along with Each One Teach One, Hip Hop Education South Africa, and B.E.S.T. College Cape Town, worked on the «Art & Culture make the world go round» project, sponsored by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development via Engagement Global gGmbH. One of the fruitful outcomes of the partnership was «Protea Gold.»

Working closely with the students from various Cape provinces, Jaroslawski coordinated an interactive project that involved the crafting of the King Protea, the national flower of South Africa. Using food coloring and paper, meticulously shaped the leaves of a big «Protea Gold». The project culminated with the sculpture’s public presentation in front of the entire school, engaging a total of 15 students in this artistic venture. The installation symbolized unity and pride, fostering an even stronger sense of community among the students and their larger school body.

Sustainable Cites & Communities

Art and Culture Make the World Go Round advances SDG 11 by implementing cultural participation as a core element of sustainable urban development. Through a participatory artistic process, people experiencing homelessness were positioned as active contributors within Cape Town’s cultural landscape. Access to gallery space as part of the city’s cultural infrastructure was opened, social hierarchies were critically addressed, and artistic recognition was made possible. The project strengthens social cohesion, inclusion, and the right to participate in urban life.
