What are the roots of domestic violence?

In 2015, Bogna Grazyna Jaroslawski launched Pink Silence in Auroville and Pondicherry, India, in collaboration with the Auroville Institute of Applied Technology (AIAT), Village Action, the Bamboo Center Auroville, the Ministry of Tourism of Pondicherry, the International Yoga Festival, and the Unity Pavilion Auroville.
How We Create Impact

Our Process

The project used collective making to address the taboo of violence against women and children. Students from AIAT and women from the Village Action groups co created a large scale installation of 365 pink bamboo sticks, each carrying an anonymous message in Tamil or English. The process engaged around 200 people, many from rural Dalit communities, and the work later toured in India and Germany. Shown in public space, the installation became a source of visibility and pride, strengthening participants’ confidence and sense of agency.
Education

How it continues

The project was displayed in several rural areas and public spaces throughout Auroville and Pondicherry. Each time the installation was presented, the community gathered in smaller circles to share personal experiences related to the topic in a safe and supportive setting.
